According to the Kojiki, (the Record of Ancient matters, a collection of myths concerning the origins of Japan) the Three Sacred Treasures of Japan, the Imperial Regalia inherited by generations of the imperial family are the Yata no Kagami, a bronze mirror, the Yasakani no Magatama, a comma-shaped jewel, and the Kusanagi Sword.
Each of the sacred treasures have their own mythology and are described in the Kojiki.
The mirror is kept at the nations most holy Ise Jingu Shrine in Mie Prefecture.
The sword is enshrined at Atsuta Jingu, the great shrine in Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture, while the jewel is said to be located at the Imperial Palace.
