About

I run Japan World — a personal notebook of Japanese history and the places you can still go to see it. Samurai biographies, battlefields, castles, crafts that are still being made by hand. I write this because most English-language Japan travel content stops at ramen shops and Shibuya crossings, and the other 99% of the country is far more interesting.

Articles here are researched from Japanese-language primary sources where I can read them, and field-checked where I can visit. When I recommend a site or a craftsman, it is because I actually went and watched.

Drop me a line on the contact page if you spot an error, want to suggest a topic, or know a battle site I should walk next.
